5 Essential Baby Products You Didn’t Know You Needed!

May 20, 2017

I compiled this list of baby products because I want everyone to know how much they made a difference for my family.  My husband & I almost didn’t purchase them because they were considered non-essential. Well, I believe they ARE essential and I do not know how I would have survived being a first time Mom without these items! You will find them useful too!

1. The Bumbo Multi Seat

Bumbo Multi Seat

We almost went with the cheaper version of this product, the bumbo floor seat. I am so glad that we spent the extra $15 for this product! I have been able to use both products because my Mother-in-law has the bumbo floor seat. The floor seat is just that; A Floor Seat (Bumbo Floor Seat). That is great if that is all you’re looking for but I bet once you have it you’ll be kicking yourself for not getting the Multi-seat.

The floor seat does not come with the tray (Bumbo Play Tray) so you have to buy that separately which costs an additional $11.99. Also, I found the tray very annoying to take on and off. You have to lift the front up in order to secure the tray on the bottom. The floor seat does not have any straps so you cannot attach it to a chair.

I am pretty sure that is why they came out with the Multi Seat. You can attach it to any chair and it stays very secure. The tray comes with the seat and there is a place to store it on the back of the seat. Your child can be in the seat when you slide the tray on making the functionality way easier than the floor seat. The multi-seat is easy to wipe down and clean (my daughter makes a mess so I have to clean it after every feeding).

My daughter enjoys this seat much more than her high chair. The multi seat quickly and easily attaches to any chair and is not much heavier than the floor seat. I was bringing it back and forth to my mother’s house when we went to visit her. My mom loved this product so much she bought one that stays at her house.

2. Fisher-price Deluxe Rock’n’Play Sleeper

Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Deluxe Rock ‘n Play Sleeper

My daughter is 9 months old so she doesn’t use this product much anymore but this was the only thing she would sleep in her first 2 months. Once she was sleeping in her bassinet at 2 months we didn’t need to use this product during the night but she still spent a lot of time in it throughout the day. The vibration is very soothing and was very comforting to her.

My husband and I brought this product everywhere with us because it was so easy to fold up. During her first 2 months, I had this stationed near our bed when she was sleeping and if she woke I was able to gently rock her back to sleep. There is a version of the Rock’n’Play Sleeper that rocks itself  (Fisher-Price Deluxe Auto Rock ‘n Play Sleeper with Smart Connect) but I have not been able to try it out. I’m pretty sure I would have loved that additional function.

3. Fisher-price Infant to Toddler Rocker

Fisher-Price Infant to Toddler Rocker, Jungle Fun

This has been my favorite baby product by far. To be honest, at first, I was not a hundred percent sold on this item. For a newborn, the vibration for this product is loud and rough (definitely not as soothing as the Rock’N’Play vibration mode). So when we first brought our daughter home she was in the Rock’N’Play way more than this product. Once she was about 3 months old I started using this Rocker A LOT.

It is an inclined sleeper and playtime seat in one. Norah loved the toy bar. It kept her occupied long enough for me to take a shower.  We don’t put the toy bar on that much anymore because Norah gets bored with it quickly now and she sits up more so it can get in the way. The product is light-weight and easily portable so I am able to move it around the house to use wherever I need it. The Tee insert is machine washable and dryer safe making it very easy to clean.

Now that my daughter is heavier the vibration mode isn’t as loud so we are able to use that function. My daughter still uses this all the time and will be able to use this product for another year or two. At only $39 this product has definitely been the best bang for my buck!

4. Graco Aire3 Click Connect Travel System, Gotham

Graco Aire3 Click Connect Travel System, Gotham

A Stroller and a car seat are obvious must have baby items but the reason this made my list is because it is a 3-wheel stroller. I cannot tell you how many people have come up to me when I am out with this stroller to say they wish they had gotten a 3-wheel instead of the 4-wheel. This is NOT a jogging stroller although at times I feel like it is because of the built-in suspension. The suspension makes it a smooth, enjoyable ride on various terrains. Did I forget to mention it’s stylish too!

5. Pack’N’Play

  Graco Jetsetter

Graco Portable Napper & Changer

Graco Pack ‘N Play Playard Portable Napper and Changer, Affinia

I own the Jetsetter Pack’N’Play and my mother owns the Portable Napper & Changer Pack’N’Play. The Jetsetter saw a lot of use from us the first 6 months. My husband’s Grandfather was ill so we did a lot of traveling with our daughter to visit with him and family. The jet-setter made life a lot easier for us. It was light, small, and easy to put together. It made life less stressful for us during that difficult time.

When we were not using it for travel we had it stationed in our living room as a changing station and nap station. It is not a big pack’n’play which is perfect for us because it fits between the doorways without having to be disassembled. That made it very easy for us to move it into our den room when needed. We no longer have it set up downstairs because our daughter has more toys downstairs and we needed some room back for living! We still use it when she has sleepovers at her Aunt & Uncles house or when we are traveling. My daughter will be able to use it for another couple of months.

My mother has the Portable Napper & Changer Pack’N’Play set up in her spare room. This Pack’N’Play is so spacious. The napper is great for newborns and can be detached from the Pack’n’Play. It is great because my mom is able to use this as a crib when my daughter spends time at her house. It is also used as a changing station. My daughter will be able to use this for awhile still because of how large it is unlike my jet-setter. The only downfall about this Pack’n’Play is that it cannot fit through my mom’s doorways!

I would recommend either Pack’n’Play. Make the choice that best suits your lifestyle. The reason I have Pack’N’Plays listed on my Must Have List is because they have so many uses and by purchasing one you might be able to save money by not purchasing other items (a changing table, bassinet, Crib, etc.) I originally got mine to use as a bassinet for my bedroom. The only reason I ended up not using it for that purpose was because my friend let me borrow her bassinet.

Yes!! Such a great list 😍 We have the first two! I really didn’t know how awesome having a bumbo was, so I feel like other new moms probably miss out on it.

My daughter is over a year now and we still use the Bumbo to take a break from the highchair. It is such a great product!

Yes to all of these! The Rock n Play was our saving grace the first 6 months! We also have almost that exact travel system, except we went with the larger jogging stroller. Great list!

I don’t know how people can survive the early months without the Rock n Play haha!!

Yes! The rock n play was a life saver for us! I was able to actually cook and do dishes and have my hands free. He slept so well in it, and it made the transition from co-sleeping to the crib a little easier.

I miss the days my girl was in the Rock n play! I can’t seem to get anything done anymore. Toddler life begins!!
